Biography

MOXA is an eclectic fusion jam band from Boston, MA.  It’s a capricious mix of sounds, blending tones of funk, neo-soul, jazz, latin, rock, among others. Surreal action adventure circus jazz ocean funk. On the rocks.

 

In 2012, MOXA released their debut album, Those Who Seek Shall Find, and toured the east coast in September on The Atlantic Top-Down Tour, which had dates ranging from Vermont to Florida. In 2013, Live Vol. 1, the debut live album, was released from this tour. 

 

Currently, MOXA is preparing their sophomore studio album. Release date TBA.

 

Tyler Adams (Keyboards, Melodica, Background Vocals), from Sarasota, FL, attended the visual & performing arts program at Booker High School. There, he began studying music theory and played at Carnegie Hall, under direction of Ned Rosenblatt. At Booker, he met drummer Max Weinstein and bassist Jake Orr and formed The Soul Panacea, an improvisational, progressive jazz group. Tyler graduated from Berklee School of Music with a B.A. in Professional Music, minoring in Psychology. An avid composer, Tyler has also been writing, assembling & recording his own catalog of original jazz & abstract improvised music. In December 2011, Tyler joined MOXA on keyboards & melodica.

 

Jessi Milch (Vocals, Percussion), from Marshfield, MA, was vocally trained for classical Italian, a cappella choir & theatre since a young age. Jazz found her at age 17 & she has never looked back. Born and raised by the sea, Jessi now swimmingly resides in Allston, MA. Over the years she has performed in theatre productions, competitions, national anthems, fine dining, events & background vocals. She now holds a B.S. & A.S. in Audio Production & Media. 

 

Nick Malkasian (Bass, Vocals), from Worcester, MA, picked up the bass at age 13 & has been playing in bands ever since. At 18, he toured to the west coast & back for the band I Rise, playing 22 shows in a 30-day period. A 2012 graduate, Nick now holds a B.S. in Audio Production & Media. He spends his time organizing festivals and events, such as Camp Coldbrook Music & Arts Festival in central Massachusetts every June. His LLC, GigaFunk Live, focuses on sound & production services for promoters across New England.

 

Max Weinstein (Percussion), from Sarasota, FL, attended Booker Highs Visual & Performing Arts School under the instruction & guidance of Ned Rosenblatt. He graduated from Berklee, double majoring in music business & performance. He has played Timpani at Carnegie Hall, & while at Booker High, he received recognitions such as: 2 years in a row of 1st place for the Booker High Combo & Vocal Jazz Emsemble, playing drums, & the Superior Musician award in the Vocal Jazz Category. Max currently plays studio sessions, composes, & plays with The Soul Panacea and MOXA.

 

Mark Goveia (Drums), from Melrose, MA, started playing the drums at age 12, & since then has performed in various groups & bands, & has organized open Mic nights in the Massachusetts & Providence areas. He has played in & performed on stage with numerous rock, pop-punk, grunge, experimental & free-form acoustic bands across New England.
